My Self – Reflection :)

1. I think that blogging has been successful for many of us in Ms. Rumfords class because, it isn’t just about the writing we do and the boring traditional ways of learning how to be a better writer. For examples, doing essays about something we don’t have any kind of interest on, or making up stuff that we don’t really care about. Blogs to me are something that I really like doing, because I really feel that I am always learning so many thing about different interesting sports. It is not just about the same old, “make ten sentences,” and the you would put all the commas, and they making a paragraph out of it, but actually doing it and feeling good about what you are doing because you don’t feel like you are wasting your time on something you don’t want to do or you don’t care. I think that the blogs have caught my attention a lot, and that’s good because since its something I like and I actually want to do it and I put my hard work into all my blogs. I feel that the purpose of this blogs were to learn how to be a better writer, and become more comfortable on our own way of writing. I also think that doing the blogs about something that we are interested on and something that we like and it catches our attention is much better than doing the “traditional” writing activities that other teacher might still do. I also think that by writing about something that we liked, gave us more interest in our writing and kind of define our writing stile. I feel that blogs aren’t just about writing what we like, but we also learned more about sentence structure such as, clauses, phrases, simple sentences, compound sentences, complex sentences, and compound-complex sentences. We also learned about technology doing this blogs, and I think that now days technology is really good to keep learning about since everybody is using technology anywhere in the world.

2. Doing this blogs have made me accomplish many things. I have accomplish my fear about letting other people read my work, now I cant really stop anyone from reading my blog since anyone in the world can see it and they might have some different thoughts about it. I also think that I have accomplished to feel better about my writing and although I’m an English second language student doesn’t mean I can’t do what other kids can. I also feel that in the future this might benefit me in some way, maybe not the blog itself by looking at other sport and having to learn about them its so much easier to say “Oh I want to try that,” and at the end you actually try it, you will be excellent in that sport, you just never know.

3. The key points that I have learned while writing on my blog would be, the technology, and some of the research. At first I thought it was really hard to find information about a sport and I didn’t quite know what to write about. The sport was swimming, as you can see it was my first blog, I didn’t really know if I should talk about a good swimmer, about the sport itself, the swimming suits, or all. I feel that it was the worst of all, but after the second and third week I learned where to get the right information for my research and not just wikkipedia everything. One of my be sources were to look at the sports Olympic page, World Cup page, and also some national teams and leagues pages. On the technology side, I learn A LOT. For example, I learned how to put videos, and pictures on my blogs; I thought that it would make my blogs a lot more interesting and it would also be the best examples on how the sport is done. I also learned how to tag stuff, for a source that had really good information and I thought that people should check it out.

4. I believe that the weekly requirements really helped me a lot to get my blogs done, and actually take time on our half-day, Tuesday, to do my blogs and really think about what I’m going to write and how to make it interesting for my bloggers to see. The word count was sometimes a challenge for me because I think that I put the most important information on my blogs when I still had about 100 words more to put to meet my requirements. The linking part of the blogs, trying to have link so that your blog could be read more I think it was one of the least challenging things on my blogs. I think that the most easy part was putting the videos and the pictures on it, because after you know how to do it then its pretty easy and it makes the blog easier to understand and much better. The research helped me on my writing because I learned how to not just make really short sentences but also other sentences that we learned in class like compound sentences and complex sentences.

5. I really think that this would benefit me on my future for many other things. I will hopefully keep writing on this blog although the school year is over, and I will see my improvement on writing. I just think that its going to be helpful later on in time, but I don’t think that my writing is good enough to benefit me in any other way, but try and making it better and better every time. I will keep on writing on this blog so I can see my improvement throughout the years and hopefully be a lot better.

Water Polo! Water Polo!

Water polo is a team, sport, which involve seven players, sex of those players would be in the playing field, and one player, who is the goalkeeper. When there is a game in your “house” meaning at your pool. The opposite team must wear a blue cap and numbers, but the home team can just wear white. When a team player changes for another during the game, they must exit the pool from the corner or the front. Although, if the game is stopped for a break or other reasons the player can exit the pool from anywhere they’d like. The game is played easily just like handball, with your hands and you have to score goals to the opposite team. This game involves swimming, passing the ball to their teammates, and scoring by throwing the ball into the opposite team goalie. The basic skills you should have should be swimming, front crawl, and backstroke, ball handling skills, treading water, reflex, and awareness. There are three different positions in water polo, offence, defense and goalie. In water polo there are no mix genders allowed, genders are not allowed to mix in competitions. In order to make a goal, the ball has to go between the bars if it bounces off the bars into the field then the players gets it and the time starts again. In order for a game to have over time is only if the score is tied, this give 3 minutes of over time after the second 3 minute over time and the score is still tied then the coach selects five players and the goalie to shoot from a five meter line into the goal.

Water polo is sponsored by FINA (Federation Internationale de Natation) FINA was found on July 19, 1908 in Manchester Hotel in London, UK. Water polo has four different periods they are divided in the different levels, for example in the Olympics is a National level, and the time period for each is eight minutes and its authorize by OIC. OIC is the international Olympic committee. Although, there are more leagues and not the entire are for older men / women. For example, the US club, which is for twelve and younger, and their time periods are each for five minutes, this clubs do not have a national league sponsor. There is also Varsity and Junior Varsity “JV” this teams are for high school, the Varsity team period is for seven minutes and the JV team has six minutes per period. Both JV and Varsity teams are sponsored by the NFHS (National Federation of the States High School Association)

What is Synchronized Swimming? Is a combination of different sports such as, swimming, dancing, or gymnastics. A solo, duets, groups or trios could do Synchronized Swimming, you also need to make moves in the water according to the music. To be a synchronized swimmer you must have very good water skills, good strength, flexibility, grace, good timings, and the best breathing techniques because you would be a lot under water and need to learn how to breath.  The swimmer must wear an attractive colour of swimming suits, the swimming suits must be just one peace and if it’s a duet, trio, or a group, they must all wear it as a uniform in their performance. They must have their hair tight up really tightly, so that it doesn’t get on the way when the swimmers are performing.

The Olympic Games does not allow men to compete in this even, but other competitions around the world do. In the United States, and Canada, both accept men and women to compete amongst each other. In a competition the competitors perform two performance; One for technical, and the other free. Synchronized swimming is sponsor by FINA (Federation Internationale de Natation) Synchronized Swimming has been an Olympic sport since 1984.  Some basic skills are; Sculls, Eggbeater, and Lifts. Sculls is when the swimmer is performing upside down to keep the legs above water the must used the scull techniques. To use the sculls technique you must be able to support the head, foot, split scull, barrel, and thrust. Eggbeater is a form of treading the water that allows stability and height above the water while leaving the hands free to perform strokes; it is usually when the swimmer is above the water to their hips. Lifts are when the swimmers use eggbeater to lift up their team mate above the water. There are three types of lifts; the platform lift, the stock lift, and the throw. A platform lift is when one swimmer lays out in a back position. Another swimmer steps into their torso. The remaining teammates use eggbeater to hold the lift out of the water. The stack lift is just a more modern version of the platform lift. A throw lift is set up exactly like a stack lift. Although, when the lift reaches its full height, the “flyer” on top of the lift will jump off of her teammate’s shoulder. This is one of the most difficult lifts there is. There are also different kinds of positions like, back layout, Sailboat/ bend knee, ballet leg, vertical, crane, bent knee, Knight, split position, and side fishtail. Those are some very important positions the swimmers must know to perform.

Figure Skating

Figure skating is an Olympic sport. The participants must be pairs, groups, or singles for both man, and women.  Figure Skating has been going on for a while now, and it is an official sport on the Winter Olympic Games, this is an sport that not too many people can afford to do, because it is very expensive and not all the countries have a system of Figure Skating. Figure Skaters are usually from cold weather countries that have really heavy winters. The kind of performance that the skaters do are; jumps, toe jumps, edge jump, rotations and combinations, spins, lifts, steps and turns, and spirals. This are not always made in a competition; it depends if you are single, pairs, or groups. The reason not every on can so the is because sometimes you need another person to do for example, the lifts. There are equipments need it to be a figure skater such as figure skates which are very different from hockey skates and they are not as heavy as the hockey skates; you may also need a hard plastic skate guard for when you are walking outside the ice with your skates. Figure Skating dress code is really simple; the skaters usually wear leggings, tights, or flexible pant to train on. During competitions women usually wear, skirts and underneath they wear tights or legging that most of the times cover their skates, their costumes are usually colorful. For man, they just wear pants and they CANNOT wear tights, the men costumes may be matching with its partner if it’s a pair and they are very colorful. The Figure skaters scoring system is 6.0, the judges decide on their scores by they technical merit (in the free skate), required elements (in short program), and presentation (both programs). The ISU judging system is basically judged by skating skills (SS), transitions (TR), performance/execution (PE), choreography (CH), and interpretation (IN).

Gymnastics

UAI CLUB BARS WITH MATS Gymnastics is an Olympic sport that both man and women participate on. There are many gymnastics event and they are many different for man and women. The women events involves, uneven parallel bars, balance beam, floor exercise, and vault; for the men events it involves, floor exercise, pommel horse, still rings, vault, parallel bars, and high bars. Other gymnastic sports include, rhythmic gymnastic, and trampoline. Gymnastics comes from Ancient Greeks that include the circus performance skills. Children from any ages can start participating in gymnastics with only two years old or a bit younger; this helps them to be more flexible. Gymnastics for men was really popular on the nineteen century; it was so popular, that it was popular enough to be on the first Summer Olympics in 1896, the women were also successful in this sport and the first time they competed with only synchronized calisthenics was on the Olympic games in Amsterdam in 1928. The girls dress code is mainly wearing leotards, with socks or bare feet, if the girls have long hair it mush be tied back; boys dress code is just shorts and a t-shirt or sometimes sweat pants with socks or bare feet also. The highest score you could have and only if you have a really clean performance is 10.0, not many people have achieved this goal, not a lot of people have actually gotten a perfect score of 10.0. The first gymnast that ever made a perfect performance was Nadia Cumaneci, she got the highest score every made in history on the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Canada; another big American star in gymnastics that also got a clean score was Mary Lou Rotten she got this score at the Los Angeles games; no one will every beat this score due to score system changes. The 10.0 highest score system will no longer exist, on the Beijing Olympic games was canceled and the next Olympic games yet to come will have a different scoring system. The scores will start at zero and it will grow according to the skills and the performance success that the individual has.

Swimming

Swimming is one of the greatest sports in the world. There are four styles of swimming and they are: freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, and breaststroke. The Olympic events for swimming are: 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1500m. In the Beijing Olympic games 2008 there was an amazing swimmer representing the United States of America, this swimmer was named Michael Phelps. Michael Phelps competed in eight events and he won all the events with a total of eight gold medals. From my perspective he best event that he swam was his butterfly races. Michael Phelps broke the record from 1972 by Mark Spitz that was seven gold medals in an Olympic game. Michael Phelps broke his record from the Athens Olympic games in 2004, he got six gold medals in those Olympics. Michael Phelps broke two records in the 400m individual medley and his timing was 4:05.25, and in the 200m individual medley was 1:54.80. One of the most known women in the United States swimming women teams was Amanda Beard, and her best race was the 200m race.

There are new rules for the new Olympics in swimming, because they were having issues with some swimming suit that the swimmer were wearing, For Example, you can’t have a whole swimming suit covering your whole legs and your whole arms, because this swimming suits do make you go much faster but they are also more expensive, and not all the countries can afford those swimming suits for all their swimmers. When you are a swimmer, all swimmer should wear caps, it doesn’t matter if you are a boy or a girl, or if you have long hair or not, because the cap makes you go much faster and for some girls that have long hair it keeps their hair away from their faces.

It is really hard to become a professional swimmer because it takes a lot of time and effort to work so hard. For example, I was a swimmer for my school team, and I was at school from six in the morning until eight or nine at night. I had training in the mornings from six until seven, and then after school from three, fifteen until, five, and then again from six until eight at night. Being a swimmer you don’t only have to swim but you also do lots of land training, which is running, pull ups, set ups, push ups, and some more.
